MEET the NEW 2014 Instructors at SBAP.....
Laura Skroska has a background in Painting, Pottery, Costume Design, and Teaching.  Laura recently completed her Masters of Fine Art in Painting at Fontbonne University as well as working as the Teaching Assistant in the Pottery Studio at Fontbonne.  Her undergraduate work was in Theater with an emphasis in Costume Design from Southern Illinois State University.  Laura has also worked as a Special Events Costume Design Assistant at Touhill Performing Arts Center working with traveling productions, as well as working with children and adults of all ages teaching at Girl Scout Camps, and Children's Musical Theater Camps.

Eyan Mullet has an extensive background in Ceramics and Sculpture with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Sculpture from Southeast Missouri.  Eyan has showed his work at many galleries throughout rural and urban Missouri.  Eyan has worked for Southeast Missouri State University as a Sculpture Studio Teaching Assistant, and Gallery Assistant.  Eyan began his life long artistic journey in childhood learing all about the art and craft of ceramics from his mother who is a Potter.  Eyan believes working with children provides him with a great opportunity to pass on the knowledge he acquired from teachers he truly admired.

Michelle Leitheiser has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with an minor in Art History as well as special studies in Fibers, Jewelry Design and Ceramics.  Michelle has recently worked as a teaching artist at the Fine Arts Camp of New England as a lead instructor as well as many other creative retail and teaching positions.  Michelle is looking forward to teaching at SBAP as a new opportunity to embrace her own creativity to inspire the artistic minds of students.

Happy New Year from my family to yours!  I would like to thank so many of you for your continued support of our unique community based arts program.  It has been with your support that SBAP has flourished and grown to become a creative destination for South City.  2013 was an exciting year for us as we opened our NEW POTTERY STUDIO, launched a new program for all ages called OPEN STUDIO, as well as a great partnership with ALIVE STL Fashion Week!  All of us here at SBAP are looking forward to 2014 as it is our 5th Anniversay being open to the public!  Stay tuned as we have an exciting year planned that we think families, kids, teens, adults, individuals, and groups of ALL ages will want to be a part of!  Throughout the coming year we plan to add more pottery wheels to the studio, expand our Gallery and Shop with Monthly Art Openings as well as additional 6 week workshops for kids, teens, and adults......

MEET the NEW 2014 Instructors at SBAP.....

Come PICK UP holiday pottery items & gifts this week Thurs & Fri 12-7pm & Saturday 10-4pm.  We only applied shiny glaze to items that were painted with color.  If you did not paint your ornaments with color yet set aside
some time at pick up to paint....

GOODBYE...Stop by the studio anytime this week (Thurs/Fri/Sat) to say goodbye to Instructor Alexandra Scibetta-Quigley!  We have been so fortunate to have Alex as a resident artist at SBAP for the last 3 years!  She has truly touched the lives of SO MANY students!  She is moving out of state to embark on a new adventure.
We wish her the best on her journey,
she will be missed by many!

"Once Upon a Runway" Fashion Design Project & Camp culminates in an interactive Fall Fashion Show that will tell a re-imagined story created just for the runway!  Storybook "haute couture" is more than words can say ….  Just as these tales have been told, written and re-written through the ages, these young designers will de-construct, and re-write the storybooks and popular stereotypes though original Fashion Design.

This Fall Fashion Show is our Annual Fundraiser Event.  All proceeds raised from this Fashion Show Event will fund our affordable and free programming throughout the coming year!   Once Upon A Runway will have fun things for kids and adults to do and promises to be a unique experience for the individuals and the whole family!  Please help us spread the word about the event by inviting your friends and family by responding and forwarding email and Facebook invites.  Please SUPPORT unique opportunities for youth and consider attending, you will not want to miss this totally unique experience!

Painting & Drawing Open Studio
ZENTANGLES - "STRAIGHT UP, JUST DRAW & Paint!"


This session will focus on a new idea every week teaching you everything you ever wanted to know about how to draw and paint through the art of ZEN-TANGLE with pencil sketching, pen and ink, and painting.  Paint and draw open studio experience is set up for students to make a choice each visit to either draw or paint.

Wednesday 10/9 - ZEN-TANLGE Animals & Nature

Contrast colors through PAINTING OR DRAWing with Pencils and Prismacolors
Wednesday 10/23  - ZEN-tangle LANDSCAPES
4 Color PAINT Mixing OR DRAWing with pencils, pens, markers, and INK

Students who attend regularly are encouraged to expand on previous weeks work.  Advanced students are always welcome to bring independent work to open studio for instruction and guidance.

This week and this month we are instructing beginner students on the basics of pottery techniques through explorations of Halloween Inspirations.  Once students earn 6 HOURS of hand-building experience, they can  reserve a potters wheel for an introductory lesson and sky's the LIMIT!

Thursday 10/3 - Friday 10/4  - Saturday 10/5 CLOSED

GET READY FOR FALL AND RE-DESIGN A LONG-SLEEVE BUTTON-UP SHIRT FROM YOUR OWN CLOSET!  Bring a button up shirt to re-design, or we'll have some here to pick from too! The longer you stay the more ruffles, details, and alterations you will make to your shirt!  KEEP IN MIND:  Oversized skirts will work great with leggings, or skinny jeans and a belt.  FITTED SHIRTS will be a great CLASSIC addition to any winter wardrobe.
FYI:  Students are always welcome to bring in previous weeks projects to continue finishing, adding, or embellishing etc.
